INTERBUS Based PC Control & Diagnostics Capabilities (Chicago, IL) Steeplechase Software and Phoenix Contact have partnered together to introduce an enhanced INTERBUS network capability to the Steeplechase Software Visual Logic ControllerTM (VLC®) PC-based control package. Displayed for the first time at the National Manufacturing Week (IAIC) trade show, the new capabilities provide advanced diagnostics to new bit-based and distributed machine mount INTERBUS products. "We are excited about working with Steeplechase and providing this new capability to the marketplace," said Mark Knebusch, Industry and Systems Marketing Director at Phoenix Contact. "The growing use of PC Based control & INTERBUS networks has accelerated the need to cost effectively connect a small quantity but high variety of devices at any one location. At the same time, customers are physically distributing the control points from panels to junction boxes, and finally to devices directly mounted on the machines or in the manufacturing process." "We have developed many successful applications with Phoenix Contact and now Steeplechase will be the first software package to offer customers the advanced diagnostic capability," said Jeff Fisher, VP of Product Marketing and Applications Engineering. INTERBUS Inline from Phoenix Contact, a recent recipient of Control Engineering's 1998 Editor's Choice award, is the first product to use this capability. INTERBUS Inline integrates signal conditioning and full network communications into small, modular housings. INTERBUS Loop based products will also utilize the advanced diagnostics and control capabilities. INTERBUS Loop combines INTERBUS protocol and power into a current modulated, two wire signal. This provides "sensor bus" cost effectiveness with full INTERBUS communications functions for distributed machine mount devices.
